Why a seed mix?
Although parrots can not be fed solely on a seed based diet, seed still form a very important part of their diet. Not only do seeds have a number of healthy nutrients, but parrots enjoy opening, cracking, and shredding the hulls of seeds to get at the tasty centres. This helps to fulfil your parrot’s psychological need to forage for its food.
Seeds embody many nutrients such as: protein; vitamins A, B, D, and E; as well as lipids and fatty acids. Without lipids in the diet a parrot cannot absorb the fat soluble vitamins (A,D,E and K). Fatty acids are broken into two categories: essential and non-essential.
Non-essential fatty acids can be manufactured by a healthy parrot’s body if they are provided the proper balance of vitamins and minerals.
Essential Fatty Acids (EFA) are nutrients that the body cannot manufacture and therefore must be supplemented from dietary sources.
The two most significant EFA’s are Omega 3 and Omega 6. These are found in your seed.

Are you and your feathered companion new to Parrotainment mixes?
This is what we can recommend for our new feathered clients that do not pluck.
Please remember that seed is NOT a complete diet. You do need to add a variety of fresh vegetables and fruit to your parrots’ diet. You are welcome to look at our CHOP builder in our ARTICLE section.
